Denise D. Johnson

1953 - 2018

Denise D. Johnson, 64, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Grand Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (formerly Barnwell) in Valatie, NY after a long illness.Born in Schenectady on July 17, 1953 to the late Stanley A. DuCharme, Jr. and Dolores Matulewicz DuCharme. Denise worked for Alco Equipment at the Port of Albany and did modeling. She married Roger Johnson and moved to Virginia Beach, VA until 1984. During that time they traveled the East Coast with Roger's band. After moving back to the Schenectady area, they reconnected with their loving family and friends. Denise devoted much of her time to animal rights and rescue. She founded her own animal rights organization called "PAWS Inc." She found homes for the animals with friends and others in the community. Denise enjoyed gardening, and growing vegetable. She also enjoyed her father's pastime, going to the races and following the ponies.Denise was predeceased by her loving parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.She is survived by her sister, Cherylanne DuCharme of California; two brothers, Ronald DuCharme of Clifton Park and Stanley DuCharme of Scotia; one aunt, Mary Koller; two uncles, Joseph (Nancy) DuCharme and Rev. Ronald Matulewicz of Clifton Park; nephew, Adrian Bowes of Schenectady; niece, Shannon (Dan) Cath; and great-nephew, Shane Cath of California; step-sister, Donna Foley of Schenectady; aunt, uncles, cousins and many special friends, Sheryl and Dennis Pelkey, Todd and Joanne Langley and Joan Irish. Denise will be missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to thank Tom Dolan and Todd Langley for their help following the loss of her home in Altamont from a fire on January 8, 2018.Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.In lieu of flowers donations for Masses may be sent to the Rev. Ronald Matulewicz, 3 Sevilla Drive, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
