Belated condolences to the Reilly family on the loss of Dr Ed Reilly. He was a great teacher and mentor to me personally, and to many others, in the Computer Science program at the U. at Albany in the early 70s. His memory endures.

Dear Reilly family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. It was truly my pleasure to get to know Ed & Jean. Ed was always very genuine and quick to acknowledge hard work. My favorite memory will always be witnessing him and Jean share an anniversary dance a few years back aboard the Lac Du Saint Sacrement. Their love for each other was inspiring. Ed was a kind person, talented leader, and true gentleman. I wish you all peace and a lifetime of lovely memories.

Belatedly, I extend my condolences to Ed's family. I, too, joined the UAlbany faculty in 1965. It was an exciting period as the institution transitioned from a College to a Research University. Ed filled the need to launch a Computer Science Program. He brought in top faculty. established both basic and advanced courses, and promoted faculty research which attracted students interested in this relatively new field of science. The department and its programs today have been extraordinarily successful, built on the foundation he put in place. He was a wonderful colleague who helped the institution become a national research University - a wonderful legacy.

Our library family is saddened by the loss of our distinguished Board of Trustees colleague. I had the pleasure of working with Ed on our Board and during the time we were both on the Board of the Schenectady County Historical Society. Ed served our community in so many different ways over the many years he and Jean raised their family here. He had a varied and distinguished career and believed in giving back in the community. One of the things that touched me most about Ed was his devotion to his wife Jean.... the words many of us spoke as we took our wedding vows "I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love and honor you all the days of my life."

Dr. Reilly was the professor for my first computer science course in 1988 which ultimately solidified my career path. It was my pleasure to later serve him as his assistant and occasional book reviewer. I recall one evening when this young student needed a ride home from a late night in the department - Dr. Reilly went well out of his way, as he always did with his students at the university that he loved. Please accept my sincere condolences to his family. He was a great man.

Jean, I am so sorry for the loss of your husband, Ed. You and Ed were always such an inspirational couple. My heart aches for the loneliness you must be feeling. Ed will be the angel on your shoulder and God will guide you through this period of grief.

Ed and I were colleagues in the Computer Science Department at SUNY Albany. He was always willing to help me. I learnt a lot about teaching and advising students from him. I am saddened by the news. This is indeed a big loss. I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to Jean and all the members of Ed's family. May God give you enough strength to bear this loss.
