Eunice Finkle Obituary

Eunice Finkle, age 89, entered eternal life on February 3, 2016. Born, Eunice Blume, on December 3, 1926 in Troy, NY. She married the love of her life, Staats (Bud) Finkle, on May 3rd 1958, combining their respective families to form a single loving core of six children, four boys and two girls. Eunice and Bud grew the family by two more boys. Residing in Niskayuna, NY, for nearly 30 years, the family of 10 grew further as they extended their love and became second parents to numerous others. Eunice was a congregant and active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Schenectady. While her youngest children were in grade school, Eunice ran a child care business from home, taking great pleasure in the love of children. Later she worked for nearly 20 years managing the office of La Torre Orthopedic, for her best friends, Richard and Kathryn La Torre. Eunice's keen sense of organization and duty left an indelible impact on the business and those around her. Eunice and Bud retired to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1985, and enjoyed 17 years of making new friends and supporting their church (Faith Lutheran Church) and community. They loved traveling, square dancing and camping with friends and family. In 2002, Eunice and Bud relocated back to NY, settling in, Saratoga Springs, where they could continue their retirement, while being closer to their family. Eunice continued to be active in the church, quickly finding a new home at St Paul's in Saratoga. Her sense of devotion, caring, and service to others, was further exemplified by her involvement in the church. She looked forward to her weekly outing to support the work of the food pantry. She was further honored to be of weekly service in supporting the sacrament of Holy Communion. Eunice is survived by her children, James Finkle (Mary), Barbara Finkle, Steven Finkle (Diane), Robert Finkle (Angela) and Douglas Finkle (Michelle); 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Esther Jasniewski; several nieces and nephews; dear friends, Kathryn La Torre and Judith Gillern; and many extended family members. Eunice is predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Harriet (Beecroft) Blume; her brothers, Edwin, Frank, Frederick, Donald and Kenneth; her husband and soul mate, Bud; her sons, Thomas and William; and daughter, Patricia. All are cordially invited to join friends and family to share in a celebration of Eunice's life on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, 12866. An informal gathering will be held in the church narthex at 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. Pastor, Adam Wiegand, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Human Care Ministry (Food Pantry) at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, a service which was especially important to Eunice. So sorry to the whole Finkle family for the loss of your matriarch. I think of her frequently with very fond memories - quite a special woman she was.

Bob, Doug, and family, we are so sorry for your loss. We will always cherish our memories of you all as our warm, caring neighbors on Palmer Ave. Delivering newspapers, shoveling snow, sharing baked goods, and even meals, caring for our kids, you were an important part of our many years in Niskayuna. Eunice's pumpkin bread recipe is still a staple in our home. She has left us all with a wonderful legacy, and will surely not be forgotten.

It is hard to adequately express the feeling of loss here on this page of a wonderful woman that was introduced to me five days before I began kindergarten with her son. What a wonderful life she shared with many and I was fortunate to be close to the Finkle family to experience this. Eunice you will be missed by many.

I will always remember Aunt Eunice's kindness and genuine concern for all. She taught me many lessons about being patient, tolerant, respectful, and courteous. She has always been in my life as my second Mom, and I will miss her very much.
