Harold G. Sanders Scotia - Harold G. Sanders, 91, a cherished patriarch and beacon of joy, passed away peacefully in Broadalbin, New York, on December 14th, 2023, while surrounded by the love of his family and the serene backdrop of Sacandaga Lake. Born on November 25, 1932, in Schenectady, New York, to his parents, Fred and Ida (Fuller) Sanders. Harold's journey was marked by unwavering love for his family and always finding the time for games.
He was the devoted husband of 65 years to his high school sweetheart, Antoinette "Toni" Sanders, with whom he built a life full of laughter, adventure, and mutual support. Together, they raised a family that would be his pride and joy.
A proud veteran, Harold served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Camp Pickett, Virginia, and later at Fort Meade in Maryland.
After his military service, Harold returned to his roots and embarked on a fulfilling career with Niagara Mohawk Power and Light Company. Over 42 years, he demonstrated his commitment to excellence. He worked every position at NiMo, from meter reader to serviceman to service dispatcher. His membership in the NiMo 25-Year Club was a point of pride and reflected his hard work.
An avid New York Giants fan, he relished attending games with his son. He was an active grandfather, who attended his grandchildren's sporting events and supported them with the same enthusiasm he showed his beloved Giants. Harold's competitive spirit shone brightly whether he was playing pool, ping pong, or bocce ball, even well into his 90s. He was a man who played to win, yet his heart was always in the joy of the game, especially when with family.
Harold and Toni shared a love of travel that took them to many places, with Florida holding a special place in their hearts. In retirement, Harold found his creative passion in woodworking, a craft that allowed him to express his creativity and handiness in the sanctuary of his garage.
Harold was the epitome of a life well-lived. He was humble, loving, and kind - qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. While he may have been predeceased by his parents and siblings, Robert, James, John Sanders, Mildred Kalinkewicz, and Margaret Sparks, his legacy of kindness and strength lives on through his family and all the lives he touched.
To continue his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Antoinette "Toni" Sanders; beloved children, Patricia (Dan) Matthews, Michael (Roz) Sanders, and Debra (Matt) Hathaway; cherished grandchildren, Steven DiCarlo, Nicholas (Erin) DiCarlo, Shawn (Deanna) Sanders, Gregory (Kate) Sanders, Katelyn Hathaway, and Ryan Hathaway (Caley Brunson); adored great-grandchildren, Holden, Cameron, Lucille, Piper, Willow and Roz Sanders, and Aiden DiCarlo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and his beloved cat, Maylei.
