Irene Pilling

Mrs. Irene Slavis Pilling, 83, of So. Third Ave., died Monday evening at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, after an extended illness. Born in Hoosick Falls, Christmas Day 1924, daughter of the late Anthony and Leonora Marcinkavic Slavis, she was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy of Hoosick Falls. A homemaker who concerned herself with the care of her late husband, daughters and grandchildren, Irene enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles N. Pilling, who died June 14, 1985; a brother, Anthony Slavis; and sister, Helen Evans. Survivors include her four daughters, JoAnn (Steve) Meister of Sodus, NY, Susan DiVirgilio of Mechanicville, Charlene Pilling of East Hartford, CT, and Robin (Clifford) Stoddard of Mechanicville; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Denman, Michelle Meister-Chase, Cassandra Meister, Peter and Scott DiVirgilio, Tracy Perkins, Nicole and Susan DiVirgilio, Stacy Taylor and April Stoddard; seven great-grandchildren, Abagail, Nathaniel, Andrea, Joel, Kayleigh, Karly and Ava. Also survived by her brother, Joseph Slavis of Hoosick Falls; sister-in-law, Anne Hosley-Lane of Mechanicville, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either the American Diabetes Assoc., Kidney Foundation of NE New York or Capital District Cancer Research Foundation, in loving memory of Irene M.
