Mrs Cronkhite I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Coach Cronkhite. I cannot even think of the gymnasium half of the school building without thinking of Coach. Although I was not on any teams due to medical reasons, I did have Coach for gym classes when we had combined classes. He always encouraged me to climb the rope in the gym and was confident I would be able to do it even though I was deathly afraid, but I tried because I did not want to disappoint him. He was an awesome individual and we knew if Coach said something we better pay attention. There was no "monkey" business when Coach was around. As Dean I really don't know if he ever had to take anyone to his office as I think we were probably all too afraid in disappointing him. We always knew though he cared about us as did many of our teachers and if we needed something he would be there for anyone. He was truly part of the S-VE community and will always be a Panther. God called home one of his best players in life. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and all of your family as you experience this devastating and untimely loss.

God bless you and your whole entire family Lorraine. Coach will be missed so much by so many people. I have used him for 40 years as the example of Fateful. He taught us everything, he didn't hold back anything. He would always say this isn't about baseball or basketball this is about life,I soon found out what he was talking about, from dinner with Dave DeBusschere, the Christmas tournament MVP,and getting to play second base at the High School Allstar game , none of that would have ever happened without coach,I used everything he showed us daily. Wow what a guy Lorraine,I would always look up coach when I came to New York just to thank him for everything ,it never seems like it was enough I was just happy to see him, there is no other coach made like Coach Cronkhite. I Love You Man.

I remember nobody wanted to get sent to Rook's office. Nobody wanted to disappoint him. We knew he truly cared about all of us, and his opinion of us mattered. He commanded just the right amount of fear and respect from his students. His face would get so red when he was mad! He was also the only teacher who could successfully teach me algebra. He truly was the best of the best, and will be sorely missed. Jennifer Bennett, SVE Class of 1990

He was an excellent man and an excellent baseball coach. He really taught us the fundamentals- these tools were very valuable when we got in competition. I learned a great deal of baseball strategy when we did "chalk talks" on wet and rainy days to give us on edge always pre-thinking what we were going to do when we had the ball hit to us. It was the thinking side that was our edge. He helped us get a pitching machine that gave us all a large number of opportunities to really see the hitting zone. I have often used his baseball training skills as a lesson in life- to think about the situations that I may face and prepare for what I would do if those situations occurred! I am sorry to hear about this and I pray for comfort for his family!

I remember when Coach Cronkhite came to Spencer-Van Etten..He was my basketball/baseball coach( he always wrapped my knee with an Ace bandage..he wouldn't let anyone else do it..it was his ritual) and a friend..Throughout my life I have gone back many times to what he used to say to us JV basketball boys (cause we were a ragtag team of scrapers) we didn't look like much..but ,"I have No Doubt gentlemen..you can do it"..and we did..Even though I haven't seen you in a long time..I'm gonna miss knowing that you're in the world Coach..you made me believe in myself..
