Jean McCullough Obituary

Jean F. McCullough AmsterdamJean F. McCullough, 87, of Stewart Street, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, at Albany Medical Center with her loving family at her bedside. Born June 26, 1926, in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of the late Edgar S. and Martha Bantelman Follett. Jean was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and a 1944 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She was also a graduate of the Amsterdam School of Commerce. Jean was employed as a secretary and insurance underwriter for the former McCleary Insurance Agency in Amsterdam. She later worked as church secretary and served as Clerk of Session for the former Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam. Jean was a devoted member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam, and was president of the Church's Mary-Martha Circle at the time of her passing. She served as president of the Circle for over 25 years. In addition, Jean was an avid Boston Red Sox baseball fan and never missed watching a game. Jean always had a smile, a warm personality, a big and caring heart and loved to be with people. Jean was a very loving wife and mother. She also enjoyed going out to eat, both for a wonderful meal and to see and speak with people she knew. She also kept up on the news, closely following current events. On June 27, 1959, she married Robert G. McCullough, who passed away on October 28, 1994. Jean is survived by her son, Randy L. McCullough and his wife, Bonnie of Niskayuna; a niece, nephew and several cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. James McLeod Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The Mary-Martha Circle will be hosting a luncheon in Jean's honor at the Church immediately following the graveside service. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Flowers are welcome. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution in Jean's memory to the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
