John S. Docherty, 78, of Broad St., Schenectady, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late James and Zuzana Ozvoldik Docherty. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, he served in the United States National Guard in the 727th Armored Ordinance Battalion for eight years. He was a member of the former St. Cyril and St. Thomas Church, and is currently a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. John enjoyed his morning walks and coffee with his friends at the Rotterdam Square Mall. He was an avid NY Mets and NY Giants fan. He enjoyed going with his wife to the Racino and lunches with his wife and friends at the Bellevue Cafe. John is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marcella Hallowich Docherty, whom he married on May 26, 1956 at St. Columba Church; son, John J. Docherty; daughter, Marcella (Jeffrey) Prusecki; and grandchildren, Caitlyn and Emily Prusecki. Dear Marcy and family, deepest condolences from me and Wally. John is a blessing, his memory a treasure, he is loved beyond words, and will be missed beyond measure. Words cannot express how heavy my heart is at his passing. Our mothers are sisters and that made us cousins, but John was more like a brother. I don't know anyone who ever had an unkind word about him. I pray God gives you all comfort and strength to help you through the difficult days ahead. "May the Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from another" (Gen 31:49)
