John Gordon Obituary

John L. Gordon MaltaJohn L. Gordon, 64, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at home after a long illness. He was the son of the late Kermit and Martha Smith Gordon. John was born on July 8, 1949 in Schenectady. He was a 1967 graduate of Mohonasen High School and Schenectady County Community College. John was a field service technician for the Diebold Corporation for the last 20 years until the onset of his illness. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Signal Corps serving in Ethiopia. He attained the rank of Specialist 5th Grade. John was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Club and was a member of the Monday Night Dart League. He loved all animals and took pride in his lawn care. He was the go to man for any problem or project. He was a kind person who willingly gave his time, resources, and tools to anyone in need. John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Oliver Gordon. Besides his wife, Elizabeth, he is survived by seven brothers and sisters, Marian Kotell, Earl Gordon, Eleatha Davis, Donna Delnick, Patricia Gordon, Susan Lindsay, and Paul Gordon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother, Everett D. Gordon. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a celebration of John's life at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam, on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in John's name to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302 or to Saratoga Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Special thanks to Saratoga Hospital and Saratoga Oncology-Hemotology, doctors and staff who were at John's side through his illness. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. DeLuccia.
