John F. Swierzowski JohnstownJohn F. Swierzowski, age 84, of Johnstown, NY and Delray Beach, FL, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, NY surrounded by his family. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928 to Jacob Swierzowski and Katherine Lewek Swierzowski of Amsterdam, NY. He was a 1946 graduate of Amsterdam High School and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Philippine Sea. John was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power as a Service Representative for 36 years until his retirement in 1988. John was a member of the PNL Club of Amsterdam, a Boy Scout leader with Troop 45 and a member of the Knights of Columbus and communicant of the former St. Patrick's Church of Johnstown. Mr. Swierzowski was a devout Catholic who enjoyed expressing his faith through song. He sang for many years in the PNL Glee Club and the St. Cecelia's Choir of St. John's Church where he met his wife Betty in 1956. John continued to sing with the former St. Patrick's Church choir. During his retirement, he enjoyed golf, stained glass crafting and playing cards. John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Betty (Gomulka) Swierzowski; four children, Karen (Michael) Rutkowski of Fayetteville, NY, John M. Swierzowski (Theresa) of Johnstown, NY, Nancy (Duane) Quayle of Knoxville, TN and Carol (Paul) Peplowski of Malta, NY; 11 cherished grandchildren, Theresa and Daniel Rutkowski of Fayetteville, Erica (Andrew) Kosiba of Mayfield, NY, Anna and Michael Swierzowski of Johnstown, NY, Jeremy, Zachary, Timothy and Christine Quayle of Knoxville, TN and Elizabeth and Stephen Peplowski of Malta, NY; two sisters, Clara Frye and Stacia (John) Adamchick of Amsterdam; one sister-in-law, Susan Goldy of Summerville, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Pabis and Stephen Swierzowski; and two sisters, Mary Kwarta and Adeline Jascur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Holy Trinity Church, Glebe Street, Johnstown. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 20th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's memory to Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, 4988 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010. The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff on the Second Floor of Wilkinson RCHF for the loving home they provided for John in his final days.
