Kurt Sutter Obituary

Kurt R. "Kurtie" Sutter, 74, of McClellan Avenue, Amsterdam, New York, died Sunday evening April 5, 2009, after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Amsterdam, on January 23, 1935, he was the son of Harold and Mildred (Stearns) Sutter. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in Germany. He later graduated from Hartwick College with a bachelor of science in education. Kurt taught school at Sydney Center and later worked as a machinist at Greno Industries, retiring in 2000. Kurt played softball with many teams over the years in Oneonta and in Amsterdam. He was also an avid golfer, and member of Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course. He was an accomplished bowler, bowling a number of perfect games. He served as secretary treasurer of the Trinity League, and bowled for Schell's Pharmacy for many years and was a member of Broadalbin VFW Post 8690. Kurt is survived by his brother, Harold of Los Angeles, CA; his son, David and his wife, Linda of Broadalbin; his daughter, Laura Greene and her husband, Ed of Clifton Park, and his beloved four grandchildren, Phillip, Douglas, Meghan and Katie. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Barbara Sutter, whom he married in 1958. Kurt leaves behind many friends, who have been a very important part of his life and who were a great comfort to him during his illness. Kurt's relatives and friends are invited to funeral services at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street on Friday at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the mortuary. In lieu of donations, it was Kurt's wish that we each take a friend or a loved one out for an evening and spend some time enjoying each other's company, as he has so enjoyed doing over the years. The family would like to thank Hospice of Amsterdam for their dedication and care for Kurt.

My condolences to Kurt's family. I played softball and bowled with Kurt for many years in Oneonta and remember many other great times. He was a good friend and team-mate to all.

Feb 8, 2009--
I bowled with Kurt as a sub bowler for several years. We had so much fun it was better than going for therapy. After many matches we went for pizza and more laughs. A great guy and I send my condolences to his family.

I played a lot of ball with Kurt. There might be a kinder man on this earth, but I haven't met him yet. What a wonderful individual. And he was a doggone good pitcher, too!

Our sincere condolences,
