Leon R. Hammond, 77, of Tampa, FL, died on February 28, 2018.Leon was born on May 12, 1940 in Ridgeley, WV and was the son of the late Leon C. and Nellie Elizabeth Hammond. He was a 1962 graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and finance.Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Captain. He was employed for many years by the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, where he held many management positions. Prior to moving from Scotia, NY to Florida in 1990 he was president of Distribution Unlimited in Rotterdam, NY, and at the time of retirement, was vice-president of Seaboard Tampa Terminals in Tampa, FL.Leon is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carol (DaMassa) Hammond; daughter, Jill A. Hammond of Austin, TX; son, Paul L. Hammond and his wife, Jill of Tampa, FL; step-grandchildren, Hannah, Michael and Matthew Hale; sister, Mary Kay McLane and her husband, David of Camp Hill, PA; nieces, Kendall McLane McCarthy and her husband, Evan and Meghan McLane Moore and her husband, Chad of Leesburg, VA. Leon was a member of St. James UMC in Tampa, FL.A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10th at McKownville UMC, 1565 Western Ave., Albany, NY 12203. Interment will immediately follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY.Contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205, in memory of Leon R.
