MARGARET DOOLIN Obituary

Margaret M. (nee: Fitzgerald) Doolin, 96, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 with her loving family by her side. Born in Chicago, IL, on May 17, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ann (nee: Madden) Fitzgerald. She was raised and educated in New York City and was the editor of her high school year book. She attended the Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. As a young girl, she was a communicant of St. Patrick's Cathedral, NYC, and later a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady, and was past president of the Rosary Society. She was employed as a registered nurse for many years, retiring in 1983 from Health Services at SUNY Albany. Margaret attended Fuzzybeanz Clown School at HVCC where she joyfully became "Frisky Fritzi." She was an adventurer and traveled the world. She was a voracious reader, played Scrabble, enjoyed crosswords and swimming. She received her honorary bachelor's degree from SUNY Albany, was an honoree for outstanding individuals from the bishop, earned a recognition award from the YWCA for Women of Achievement in Schenectady County and was a resident advocate for Kingsway Community. Married in 1938, Margaret was predeceased on May 2, 2006, by her husband of 67 years, John Doolin. She is survived by 11 children, Arlene (Joseph) Druzba of Virginia, Anne (Joseph) Spangler of Virginia, Pauline (David) Day of California, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Neal) Boudette of Clifton Park, Peter (Kate) Doolin of Florida, James (Ximena) Doolin of Virginia, Mary Rose (Jack) McKinney of Guilderland, Robert (Laura) Doolin of Saratoga Springs, Kathleen (Robert) Kleinbauer of Clifton Park, Patricia (Gary) Lieberstein of California, and Thomas (Ellen) Doolin of Guilderland; 34 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2733 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12304.
