Margaret Sierleja Obituary

Margaret (Carrigan) Sierleja, born in Schenectady to Leo & Lucy (Schmidt) Carrigan on 9/26/1923 passed away on 10/14/2018 after a long Illness. Margaret graduated from Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School and upon graduation worked as a secretary for General Electric. Margaret was married to the late Kenneth F. Sierleja, Sr. on January 15, 1945. They were married for 63 years prior to his death in 2008. For much of their life together they enjoyed playing bridge with their friends, and played many sets of tennis in their younger years. In addition to being a homemaker, Margaret was a volunteer for many years at Ellis Hospital and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. She was a loving mother to sons, Kenneth Sierleja, Jr. of Wells, ME, John Sierleja of Glenville and daughter, Nancy Luzinas (Stephen) of Amsterdam. She was also the proud and loving grandmother to Lieutenant Commander Kenneth Sierleja, III (Stephanie) of Guam, Michael Sierleja of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew Sierleja of Olympia, Washington, Evan Luzinas (Jordan) of Troy, Corinn Moran (Jason) of Amsterdam and also to her great-grandchildren, Isobel and Sofia Sierleja of Guam, Makenna and Cayden Moran of Amsterdam and Emory O'Steen of Utah. In addition to nieces and nephews who survive Margaret, are her brother and sisters-in-law, Dr & Mrs. Wayne Houser of Rochester, MN and Margaret (Leo) Carrigan of Allen, Texas. In addition to her husband, Ken; parents, Leo & Lucy (Schmidt) Carrigan and stepfather, Albert Victor Bigwood, Margaret was predeceased by her granddaughters, Sarah Sierleja, Jessica (Sierleja) O'Steen and sisters Catherine (Carrigan) Hull, Virginia (Bigwood) Pahl, and brother, Leo Carrigan. In accordance with Margaret's wishes there will be no calling hours and burial will be at a future date at Saratoga National Cemetery. In keeping with Margaret's wishes, she has made an anatomical donation to Albany Medical Center. Margaret was able to thrive during her years at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam due in great part to the many caring and dedicated staff members who we thank for taking such good care of her. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

To Margaret's Family - I still have those wonderful memories of bridge games shared with Margaret and Ken. They were both such gracious and caring people. At age 93 and still living in Texas, I look back on all the nice people that passed thru my life. Ken and Margaret were two that shared happy times. Best wishes to Margaret's family.

To Margaret's family - I have such fond memories of playing bridge with Ken and Margaret at the Alplaus Methodist church in Alplaus on Friday nights. They were both such lovely, pleasant and happy people. My husband Dick Lang passed in 2012 and I am now living in Texas. Oh, how I miss those
wonderful bridge games. My deepest condolences to you. Nancy Lang, Coppell, Texas
