Michael McTygue Obituary

Michael E. McTygue passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at home, surrounded by the faces of the people he loved. He was born on October 27, 1938 in Saratoga Springs. Michael was proud to serve his country in the United States Army, stationed in Hawaii from 1957–1959. Shortly after returning home he was called to serve his country again from 1961 to 1962. He worked for Schenectady Hardware & Electric for a short period before perusing his desire to start his own electrical contracting business, McTygue Electric. He was also a member of the IBEW Local 236 and a past Commander of the American Legion Post 70. Mike was an avid NY Yankees and Giants fan, and he also enjoyed golfing. Mike spent hours of enjoyment playing Sudoku, but he especially loved to visit with family and friends and having coffee & dessert while playing dominoes. He also enjoyed living in Florida for many years before moving back to Saratoga Springs. Mike was a kind man with a wonderful smile and a contagious laugh, and he will be greatly missed by many. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Rosemary DiMonte Lander McTygue; his daughters, Michelle McTygue of Ohio, Diana Lander (Dan Swift) of Hadley, NY; his sons, Mark Lander (Jen) of Schenectady, NY, Michael Lander (Pat) of Corinth, NY; his brothers, Tom McTygue (Sandie), William McTygue, Peter McTygue (Jackie); his grandchildren, Michael Vinikoff of Ohio, Nicholas Lander (Kelsey) of Colorado, Vincent Lander of Corinth, and Raven Swift of Hadley. He was predeceased by both his parents, Charles McTygue and Rose Lanzara McTygue; his brother, Charles McTygue; his sister, Patricia McTygue McGovern; and a granddaughter, Morgan Lander. The family wishes to give a special thanks to the Saratoga Hospice Teams. We truly appreciate all they have done for Michael to have a peaceful journey and a special thank you goes to the long family friend, Mary Jane Schneider, for being there and also his good friends Don & Sherry Dowen and cousin Bob O'Mally (Judy). A graveside service in honor of Michael will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Family and Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY.
