Olga Katovitch Obituary

Mrs. Olga R. Katovitch, 90, formerly of Fort Plain and most recently of the Folts Home in Herkimer died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Folts Home. Born on March 3, 1918 in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of Jacob Ratyshyn and Molly Shwayaka Ratyshyn. She graduated from East Springfield High School, class of 1935. She also graduated from Oneonta Normal School, class of 1938. Mrs. Katovitch had been an area resident since 1946, previously residing on her family homestead, which is now known as the Dutch Windfall Barn in Salt Springville for 31 years. Mrs. Katovitch was a teacher of Keeslers Corners School for four years and Van Hornesville Central School also for four years. She was a homemaker and mother. Mrs. Katovitch was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain, NY. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society of the Church, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Catherine Esther #1264. Mrs. Katovitch was married on August 8, 1942 to Frank J. Katovitch. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1982. She was also predeceased by a son, John D. Katovitch who died July 25, 1971; and a sister, Vera McHugh on July 13, 2005. She is survived by a son, James F. Katovitch and Eileen of Fort Plain, NY; a grandson, Aaron Katovitch of Philadelphia, PA; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on "April 20, 2009 at 10 a.m." at the St. James Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain with Father John Roos officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Katovitch to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 453, Palatine Bridge, NY 13428 or to the St. James Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
