Paul Taglione Obituary

Paul F. Taglione, Jr. of Mechanicville, passed away suddenly on Monday November 22, 2021 at home. Born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, NY, Paul was the youngest child of the late Paul F. Taglione and the late Mary (Coreno) Taglione Paul was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School and the University at Albany where he received his BA then he went on to Harvard University to receive his Masters and to obtain his PhD. For Paul’s 8th birthday his parents gave him a subscription to coin auction catalogs and that opened the door for Paul to learn about coin collecting. As he got older what began as a hobby would make him very knowledgeable in Numismatic literature. Paul become a recognized authority in the field of gold coins and was the author of an acclaimed 4 volume set of books titled “A Reference to United States Federal Gold Coinage which was published in 1986. Unfortunately, Paul had a serious stroke at age 38, but he worked hard to recover from it. While his speech was affected, he was able to return to his love of writing and reading. Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his only brother Richard P. Taglione, and his cherished nephew Dean "Dino" Taglione. Paul is survived by his sister Rosemary (Richard) Hoag of Saratoga Springs and his nieces Nadia (Anthony) Carey, and Leah Taglione, his nephew Matthew (Andrea) Taglione; great nieces and nephews Taylor and Maxwell Carey, Gianna and Charlotte Taglione and Wyatt and Isabelle Taglione, sister in law Donna Taglione, as well as numerous cousins and friends. Paul was a generous and helpful man, to both his family, friends and often strangers. Paul also loved animals especially dogs. He was everyone’s favorite pet sitter, when he used to do a daily walk he would always bring dog treats with him to give out. Paul was a diehard fan of the Montreal Canadians Hockey Team. Prior to his stroke, while living in Boston he went to Montreal as often as he could to see them play. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. I've known Paul for 11yrs. and he was a good friend. He loved my dogs and often took them for a walk. Mr. Boo was his favorite and he'd come over every week to visit him. Mr Boo just loved him also. It was a pleasure to know him and he will be missed dearly. Spread your wings my friend as you will see Mr Boo once again.
