Peter Vander Voort

Peter P. Vander Voort Angier, NC- Peter P. Vander Voort, 77, former resident of Schenectady and Stillwater, died unexpectedly on November 5, 2023 at WakeMed Cary Hospital, Cary, NC. Born in Troy NY on February 23, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert Arthur and Frances Lucy Vander Voort.
Peter worked as a draftsman at General Electric, Schenectady for over 25 years, retiring in 2014 as a senior designer. He and wife Nancy, then relocated to Angier, NC.
Peter was a tinkerer, especially with electronics. He assembled computers from scratch at home as a hobby, providing his family and friends with the latest technologies. He was a lover of music and even played guitar. A huge movie buff, he had an extensive collection of movies in his personal library. One of his greatest passions was model trains. He had recently finished a new track and had also started sharing his love of them with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his son Kenneth Vander Voort.
Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Nancy Rathbun Vander Voort, whom he married June 22, 2002, step children Meaghan (Kevin) Henry and Michael (Katie) McDermott, step grandchildren Levi and Grant Henry, Zoe LaClair, and Elana, Riley, and Logan McDermott, his sister Roberta "Robin" (Kenneth) Hazen, niece Pamela (Michael) Lettera and her children Nick, Joe and Jake, nephew Andrew (Clara) Hazen and his children Zach, Alec, and Luke, and sister in law Karen(George) Marshall and their family.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial in the family plot at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
