RICHARD CROOTE Obituary

Richard J. Croote, 79, died early Monday morning, May 17, 2010, at his home in Rotterdam, NY. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Richard and Lillian (Weast) Croote. A graduate of Duanesburg High School, Richard was the owner operator of Croote's Service Station in Rotterdam for over 45 years, before his retirement in 2000. A veteran of the Army Air Corps, Richard was a member of the Rotterdam Elks and Rotterdam Eagles. Richard was predeceased in December of 2008 by his beloved wife of 56 years, Eleanor (Hicks) Croote. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Russell (Ralph) of Schenectady, Lisa Croote (Linda Doubrava) of San Antonio, TX, Laura Sowards (David) of Malabar, FL, and Lenita Sherwood (Ronald) of Rotterdam; his brother, Douglas Croote of Little falls, SC; five grandchildren, Richard J. Russell, Michelle M. Russell, Joshua D. Sowards, Zachery T. Sowards and Aleeza E. Sowards; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Animal protective Foundation of Schenectady, 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302. Online Condolences at www.bondfuneralhome.com.

My condolences.

I knew Dick for many years. We were friends through the VFW. He was a great friend and a greater Veteran. Dick will certainly be missed by those he touched. May he rest in Peace.
