ROBERT PATTERSON Obituary

Robert J. Patterson, 85, of Campbell Road, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Wesley Health Care, Saratoga Springs, after a brief illness. Born in Mechanicville, December 9, 1924, son of the late James and Nora Lynch Patterson, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII, and participated in the D-Day Normandy Invasion's 3rd wave with the 132nd Armored Ordinance Co., fighting its way through France and the Rhineland, receiving the Purple Heart for combat wounds. After the war, Bob worked at the shipping dept. of the former West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. until the plant closed in 1971. He then worked in the warehouse of the Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna for 16 years, retiring in 1987. An original member of the Arvin Hart Fire Dept. of Stillwater, Bob also was involved with the American Legion Post 490, Stillwater, for years; was a member of the DAV of Saratoga Springs; the Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks Lodge; St. Peter's Church, and was a former Grand Marshall of the Stillwater Memorial Day Parade. He was sadly predeceased by a son, Robert J. Patterson in 1985; a great-grandson, Robert J. Patterson II; a brother, John "Bing" Patterson; and a sister, Eileen Antolick. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jean LaBar Patterson; a son, Paul (Marie) Patterson of Valatie; two daughters, Noreen (Jeff) Baker of Clifton Park and Pamela Patterson of Merrimack, NH; six grand, eight great-grandchildren; a sister, June Vano; and a brother, Arthur (Betty) Patterson, all of Stillwater; along with nieces and nephews. A Mass will be offered on Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, No. Hudson Ave., Stillwater. Burial with military honors at St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville, on Sunday, July 4, from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either the American Legion Post 490 or the Stillwater Rescue Squad, in loving memory of Robert J.
