Stanislaus Swierzowski Obituary

On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, the Lord called his faithful servant, Reverend Stanislaus Swierzowski, 89, to his heavenly home. Born on March 6, 1930, along with his twin sister Helen, he was the son of Stanislaus and Edna Dzikowicz Swierzowski. After graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, he attended St. Mary's College in Orchard Lake, Michigan and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore Maryland, where he obtained his licentiate in theology. Father Stan was ordained for the Diocese of Albany on May 26, 1956 by the late Bishop William H. Scully. After ordination, he was assigned to the Chancery Office, where he served as vice chancellor. At the same time, Father Stan attended Siena College, where he obtained his Master of Science degree in 1960. He also attended Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he obtained his Doctorate in Canon Law. Fr. Stan was then assigned to the diocesan marriage tribunal. In 1969, he was appointed the vicar judicial of the diocese, a position he held until 1978. On June 1, 1975, Fr. Stan was assigned to his home parish of St. John the Baptist Church in Amsterdam as its pastor. He proudly served as pastor there as well as at St. Casimir's Church from 1998 until his retirement in 2007. He was also a member of the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese and also a diocesan consultor. After his retirement, Fr. Stan continued his ministry by serving the community of Amsterdam including at St. Mary's Hospital, Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Capstone Center for Rehabilita- tion and Nursing, Hillcrest Spring and the Sanford Home. Father Stan was a son, brother, uncle, friend, scholar and mentor. But his most important role was that of a disciple of God. He was a servant for others and mercy was in his heart in all that he did. Father Swierzowski was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Clara, Irene, Mary, John, Frank (Eleanor), Theresa (Paul) Krong, Helen, Edmund (Catherine) and Joseph; as well as a niece, Geraldine Bielecki. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Edward Janusz, longtime family friend Alice Larson and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his "brothers and sisters" of the religious life and many faithful followers. The reception of the body will begin at 4 p.m. with visitation to follow until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at St. Stanislaus Church, 50 Cornell Street, Amsterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the church. The Most Reverend Edward B. Scharfenbeger, D.D., Bishop of Albany will preside. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Father Swierzowski's memory to St. Stanislaus Church, Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility or Community Hospice. Arrangements are by the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam.

Father Stan married my wife and i , officiated at my parents funerals and baptized our children. One thing i'll always remember about him was his unreal photographic memory. The man was brilliant. RIP Father Stosh

In the late 70s early 1980s, Father Stan was my church leader. He was a great man and cared about St John the Baptist. I have no clue what happened to the wonderful church I remember as a child but Father Stan was a patient person who always had time to listen. My grandparents Bill and Stella Michalski thought very highly of him. I served as a reader for the church and also attended Sunday school in the basement. I remember the pierogi crew, the church fair... why did St John's close? It was a family as well as a fellowship and Father Stan was the rock. I will miss you

I worked for Present Company. Father Swierzowski was one of my regular photo customers. We always spent a few minutes talking about photography. I really liked him. He was a nice person and if he saw me outside the store he would say hi.

Dear Alice and Family:
Our sincerest sympathy and condolences to you and your family upon hearing of Father Stan's passing.
I was Father Stan's and St. John's mailman for over 12 years.
Father was a very Loving, Caring and Compassionate person. He would leave the church unlocked for me after mass so I could use the church restroom, eat my lunch in the church especially during the winter and if needed , I could use the phone.
When they had mass for the Feast of St. John the Baptist, they always seemed to have ice cream left over. Father would have Larry ,the maintenance man get a spoon and dish the next day and Father said help yourself and I did, The cooler was located in the garage.
I would often attend mass at St. John's on my day off.
My wife and I were members of Mt. Carmel, where we were also married. I remember Father Stan celebrating mass one Sunday at our parish as Father Decker was away. His homily was about God's unconditional Love for us. He said God Loved us just the way we are. We are all too often hard on ourselves and the Good Lord knows this. Well, it hit me like a ton of bricks and I thought I was going to have to go outside. It was something everyone in the parish needed to hear, but seemed to to be especially for me that day.
I was going to write this in a letter to you but thought to share it with others also.
I remember Father sending out Christmas Cards to all his parishoners and he was also very generous to me during Christmas. I will always appreciate his generousity for all he did for me. I retired in 2005 but we always sent him a Christmas Card and he to us. We also sent him a card for his birthday on March 6th.
God's Eternal Blessings to Father Stan. I know the Angels of the Lord were there in Heaven to greet him and the lord Lovingly holding him, saying "Good Job, Good and Faithful Servant"
We will miss him but not say good bye, but until we meet again.
God's Blessings to you and your family, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.
