THADDEUS LEWKOWICZ Obituary

Thaddeus B. Lewkowicz, 90, of Oxford, NY, formerly of Schenectady, passed away on December 6, 2010. Born in Ticonderoga on June 17, 1920, Mr. Lewkowicz, a longtime resident of Schenectady, was a graduate of St. Lawrence University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the president of the Class of 1942 (his senior year). He was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force based in Tibenham, England. A pilot and squadron leader, Mr. Lewkowicz earned a Distinguished Flying Cross for his service during the war. Mr. Lewkowicz was the proprietor of the Beyer Fur Shop for over 40 years. In addition, he served as the president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, and served on the Board of Directors of the Child Guidance Center. He was also an active member of the Benedicts Dance Group, the Schenectady Curling Club, and the Dutch Reformed Church. Mr. Lewkowicz was the former husband of the late Jill Young, and was the father of John Lewkowicz and his wife, Alicia (Ithaca, NY), Ann Crane and her husband, Thomas (Meredith, NH), Stephen Young and his wife, Hong Jin (Ayer, MA), Thaddeus J. Lewkowicz and his wife, Deborah (Manlius, NY), and Corinne Lewkowicz and her husband, Douglas MacFadden (Needham, MA). He is survived by ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his dear companion of almost 20 years, Virginia McCuen; her children, Douglas McCuen and his wife, Susan (New Baltimore, NY), Linda (McCuen) and her husband, Timothy Cahill (Rochester, NY), Bruce McCuen and his husband, Michael Sims (Canton, MA), and her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Donations may be made to the NYS Veterans' Home at Oxford, Attn.: Administration, 4211 State Hwy 220, Oxford, NY 13830 (the memo line must include "To the Memory of Ted Lewkowicz").
