Thomas Glasser Obituary

Thomas H. Glasser died peacefully in Saratoga Hospital on Saturday, January 21, 2023. The youngest of six children, Tom was born to Joseph and Elizabeth Glasser in February of 1927 in Hicksville, New York. He grew up in Brooklyn and attended St. Martin's Elementary School, Regis High School, and Cooper Union, where he received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1951.

Tom was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army with the United States Forces in Austria. He worked for General Electric (GE) in various engineering assignments from 1951 – 1989, with 35 years at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, New York. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the GE Quarter Century Club. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in New York State.

In June 1952, Tom married Ruth Gates at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. They lived in Scotia, Liverpool, Schenectady, and Charlton, New York, where they raised their family. Tom loved the outdoors. Downhill skiing was his passion for 50 years. He skied until he was 88 years old. He loved boating and water skiing at North Hampton Beach on The Great Sacandaga Lake. A truly humble and kind gentleman, he set an example for everyone he met on how to live a good, purposeful, and meaningful life.

Tom's beloved wife of 69 years, Ruth, predeceased him in January 2022. Tom is survived by his son Christopher (Linda) of Sandy, Utah, and his daughter Anne (Edward) Brennan of Cary, North Carolina. He is also survived by granddaughters Annabah Pearl Glasser and Jean Estelle Glasser, and numerous nieces and nephews. His youngest son, Joseph, and daughter-in-law, Kelly, died in a tragic kayaking accident in August 2010.

Funeral arrangements are made by the Glenville Funeral Home. Family and friends are welcome to express condolences at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville, NY, on Friday, January 27, 2023. Entombment with Military Honors will immediately follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY.
