Thomas W. Stedman

Thomas W. Stedman, 91, formerly of Rock Road, died Saturday afternoon in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare Center, where he had been a resident for the past year. Born in Rome, on September 4, 1917, he was the son of William G. and Edith Street Stedman. A resident of Verona for sixty-eight years, Tom was a graduate of St. Aloyisius Academy, class of 1936. He married Gertrude Murphy in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Verona, on June 28, 1940. Prior to his retirement in 1979, with forty-three years of service, Mr. Stedman was employed with Revere Copper and Brass Company as the traffic manager. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where he served as an usher and trustee and was active in various professional traffic administration clubs. Tom was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and golf. Surviving, besides his wife, Gertrude, are his daughter, Judith Mockler of Oneida Castle; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael and Diane Stedman of Verona, Daniel and Rosemary Stedman of Saratoga and Patricia Stedman of Sherrill; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Amy and Christopher Stedman, Kimberly Wituszynski, Nicole Trent, William and Rachel Stedman and Fred Ingersoll; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Stedman, on August 10, 1986 and a son, Patrick W. Stedman, on March 30, 2004. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida and 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Verona, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Edmund J. Morelle, pastor. Interment will be made in Verona Cemetery. There are no public hours of visitation.
