William Curran Obituary

William Hunter Curran passed away peacefully, on April 30, 2023, at the age of 93, at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born December 6, 1929 at the Brady Hospital in Albany, New York to Alma Hunter Curran. He spent his entire life in the Albany area. Bill attended Vincentian Institute and loved to meet fellow VI alumni to share fond memories. He received a bachelor's degree from Siena College in Loudonville, NY. Bill joined General Electric in 1951. He worked in the finance department of the Large Steam Turbine division and taught both FMP and MMP courses. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1958.

Bill met the love of his life, Elaine Miller, in Lake George and married her on August 14, 1954 at St. Vincent DePaul. This love affair endured for nearly 70 years until her passing in January 2022. Together they raised four daughters. He was often asked if he wished for a son, but he always said, "My girls can accomplish anything a boy can" and he was at every track meet, soccer game and swim meet to cheer on his girls, usually still wearing the suit he had worn to work that day so he wouldn't miss anything.

Bill became an avid skier, enjoying skiing with his whole family. He loved being one of the first in the lift line and many prayers were said when he was passing tour buses on the Northway and the logging trucks on Route 28 on the way to Gore. He also loved golfing and the time he spent at Mohawk Golf Club, with the many friends he and Elaine made during their years there. He loved taking his grandchildren out to play golf as well. Bill and Elaine enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Bermuda and throughout the United States but most enjoyed traveling to see their daughters and their families.

Bill loved to entertain anyone he met with stories of his youth, including his days as a pin setter in a bowling alley, stocking shelves at the A&P warehouse, hitchhiking to NYC with his best friend and, of course, his backyard, free range chickens were always a favorite topic. He also loved to brag about the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He remembered everyone he met and enjoyed hearing the stories of others he met.

Bill is survived, and will be missed, by his daughters, Faith Kayajian (Charles), Ellen Davis (Hugh), Sheila Woelfel (John), and Maureen VanDeusen (Richard), his seven grandchildren, Charles Kayajian, Elizabeth Kayajian (Garrett Huddy), Emily Davis, William Davis, Hunter VanDeusen, Victoria VanDeusen and Brigid Woelfel and two great granddaughters, Isla and Brynn Huddy. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Edmund Walsh, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bill is predeceased by his wife, Elaine Curran, his mother, Alma, his sister Patricia Carroll and her husband, John and his sister Marcia, his sister-in-law, Margaret Pfister and her husband, Charles and his brother-in-law, David Robert Miller and his wife, Jacqueline.

Bill's family would like to thank the staff and residents at Avila Retirement Community. Their friendship and support are so appreciated. We also thank the staff at Teresian House and St. Peter's Hospital for their care and kindness during this time.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 25th at 10:00 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, Rosa Rd., Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill's family prior to the Maas from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Church. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com.

So sorry to hear of your Dad´s passing. Your parents were always at my parents ( Marian and Gunnar) home for fun dinner parties. I´m sure they are all together having a great time

So many wonderful memories of Bill and Elaine and the four girls, swimming with them at the old Idlewood Pool, family barbecues with our family and babysitting frequently, including the memorable evening when Maureen was born. Bill's dry wit kept me on my toes ("is he joking or serious?") and his laugh was so delightfully infectious. My deepest condolences to Faith, Ellen, Sheila and Mo and their families.

Condolences to the Curran `girls´ and their families. I´ll always remember Mr Curran as soft spoken with a clever wit and hysterically dry sense of humor. A truly sweet gentleman and proud dad.
