Alex Burkholder Obituary

Alex Burkholder

Alex Burkholder, of Schaumburg, passed away on Sept. 15 after recent health complications at age 84.

Alex was an award-winning journalist who worked for 24 years at ABC7 Eyewitness News Chicago and, prior to that, for 21 years at WGN-TV and Radio. His work included countless investigative reports and interviews. Later in his career, he enjoyed field producing and covering "breaking news" all across the city and suburbs.

After retirement, he wrote three books, including "Death of the Angels" - a final compilation of his long-time reporting on the Our Lady of Angels School Fire. He was a Founding Member of the Chicago Fire Museum.

He was an economist as a hobby and won Inc. Magazine's 1983 Economic Forecasting Contest. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves in the 1960's.

Alex was born in Chicago and received a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Economics from Northwestern University and also a Master's Degree in Journalism from N.U.

He was a loving husband of wife Barbara, father and uncle who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Visitation for Alex will be held Fri. Sept. 20 at St. Hubert Church in Hoffman Estates at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am. A reception will follow at a nearby restaurant.
