TO Dean O'Kelly's family.
I was saddened to hear of Dean O'Kelly's passing. He is in a good spirit world now, with no more suffering. He will be missed by the Indian Studies Department. I have been the Secreatary here since l985, and there wasn't time when I would meet Dean O'Kelly that he would greet me with my first name. It made me feel very special..He was a great gentleman.

Marcia and Family,
I was sorry to hear of Dean O'Kelly's death. I have great memories of him at UND. He made Indian Studies and my career there possible. He only told me a little of how he got IS in Arts and Sciences, but I was always thankful for his insight and support. I always think of him as being a dean in the best sense of the word. It was never the same after he retired. My fondest regards to you and the family. Mary JAne
Marsha and family: My thoughts are with you and with all those whose lives were touched by Bernard. I have so many fond memories of my association with my Dean. I have always been thankful for his support in the creation of the Department of Anthropology at UND, and for his guidance and support for the department, its faculty and students. He always provided a kind but at the same time a guiding hand. I learned early on as Department Chair to make sure I had "carefully" composed by memos to the Dean prior to his receiving them. There were times I felt as a student in his composition class. His was always open for meetings and discussions, and all of those were enjoyable occasions. I have fond memories of his College Faculty meetings, and of his Chair meetings. Time after time we were amazed by his memory of past discussions, past policy decisions, and were equally humored by his continued persistence of smoking while standing next to signs clearly indicating there was No Smoking Allowed. First and foremost he was "The Dean", but he was an informed and caring Dean. He was interested in his faculty, in his college, and in the university as a whole. He was there for all of us, for the entire university community. Thank you Dean O'Kelly for everything. Fred Schneider
