CHARLES REZNER Obituary
Charles Louis Rezner Charles Louis Rezner died peacefully in his sleep at the home of his son, Thomas, in Augusta, Ga., on July 31, 2011, the day before his 96th birthday. He was born in 1915 in Rockford, Ill., to Louis and Nettie Rezner. Like his father, Charles was active in the Masons, attaining the 32nd degree. After graduating from Arlington High School in 1933 and The Chicago School of Printing, he worked at Rand-McNally. Hired by AEtna Casualty Insurance shortly before enlisting in the Navy in 1943, he served as a printer at the Great Lakes Naval Base throughout the war. After the war he continued with AEtna, eventually becoming their national property manager. He also became partners in a local printing firm, V&G Printers of Mount Prospect, where he was active for more than 25 years. A transfer brought Charles to AEtna's home office in Hartford, Conn., in 1969, where he served until his retirement in 1981. He lived first in Simsbury and then Glastonbury. In July 1937, he eloped with his high school sweetheart, Lois Baskin. They celebrated nearly 65 years together before her death in April 2002. Charles and Lois were very active in the life of their church, assisting in the founding of St. Simon's Episcopal Church in Arlington Heights. In retirement, he and Lois took up sailing, bowled and were active in their condominium associations. In 2003, he married the late Martha Kepley. An avid golfer, Chuck could still shoot his age at 90. As a youth he had caddied for a number of notables including legendary football star, Red Grange. It was while a member of Connecticut's Manchester Hills Country Club that Chuck's quick thinking-and CPR training-saved the life of a member of his foursome who had collapsed with a heart attack. In later years, Chuck and Lois moved to North Fort Myers and then Sun City Center, Fla. Chuck continued to be active in his community, staying a member of Sun City's volunteer rescue squad until the age of 90. Shortly after Lois's death, he accompanied a daughter to Vietnam to assist in the adoption of his youngest grandchild. Chuck lived the last two years of his life with his son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Sylvia, in Augusta. His family and friends remember his wonderful sense of humor, the many construction projects he used to improve his homes, and his caring nature. Chuck is survived by a brother, George, and sister-in-law, Lois, of North Fort Meyers, Fla.; his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sylvia Rezner of Augusta; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Robert Gundersen of Oakmont, Pa.; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Rezner and John Pryor of Glastonbury, Conn.; and his seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his stepgrandchildren, and great-stepgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Simon's Episcopal Church in Arlington Heights on Sept. 6 at 1 p.m.
