Doris Grace Bjork

Doris Grace Bjork (nee Brailsford) passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at Northwest Community Hospital. She was born in Evanston, IL on October 8, 1924, to Henry and Barbara Josephine (nee Steger) Brailsford.

Doris and her older sister, Barbara Jane were raised on the northside of Chicago, attending Daniel Boone Elementary School and Senn High School. After completing 2 years at Beloit College in Beloit, WI, she began working at a downtown Chicago bank. This is where she met the love of her life and future husband, Warren Bjork (Sr). In 1945 they were married, and were blessed with a son, Warren (Jr).

While longtime Chicago residents, they decided to follow their son and his family to Mt. Prospect, IL in 1986. Doris was always very independent. After suddenly losing Warren Sr in 1988, she enjoyed volunteering at Mt. Prospect Public Library and at Northwest Community Hospital, where she amassed 13,000 hours, primarily knitting hats for newborn babies. In 2017, she survived a fire in her home, coming back from serious smoke inhalation and lung damage. Her last years were enjoyed at the Lutheran Home Hearthstone Assisted living in Arlington Heights, IL.

She will be missed by her loving son, Warren (Linda); her adored grandchildren, Carrie (Matt Hanson) and Eric (Nicole); her cherished great-grandchildren, Grace, Julia, Ben and Grant; her loving niece, Barbara Hale of Lanexa, VA; her many friends; as well as the many family dogs she enjoyed so much!

She was preceded by her dear husband, Warren Sr.; and her loving sister, Barbara Jane Cooley.

She insisted that her 100th birthday party be her memorial gathering, one that she could actually attend and enjoy!
