Doris Scherer Obituary

Doris H. Scherer of Arlington Heights Services for Doris H. Scherer (nee Hoffmeier) will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, where she will in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Born Jan. 31, 1923, in Lowden, Iowa, she died Friday, March 30, 2007, peacefully at her home. Doris proudly served for several years as a head nurse for the Lutheran Home and Services for the Aged. She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, particularly as a social ministry volunteer. Doris was also a member of P.E.O. At Luther Village, she was active in a retired nurses' group, a current events group and other activities. Survivors include her children, Rebecca Koppel, Dr. Thomas (Silvia) Scherer and Mary (Meinrad) Scherer-Emunds; grandchildren, Jen, Justin, David, Stefan, Liz, Daniel, Camia and Erik; great-grandchildren, Amber, Amanda and Mitchell; and brother, Delmar (Mary) Hoffmeier. Mrs. Scherer was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Rev. Dr. Ross P. Scherer; and her parents, Henrik and Alma (nee Wiebel) Hoffmeier. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Home and Services, 800 W. Oakton St., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. To all of Doris' children - Your mother was a real trooper! She suffered so many serious falls,broken bones, therapy,etc. plus health issues but always seemed so happy to be alive and involved. She was an amazing person. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, (cousin) Nancy Evans Christensen
