E. ENGLEHARDT Obituary

Capt.E. Allan Englehardt, 69, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at his home in Lake Bluff. He was born January 29, 1947 in Chicago and had been a Lake Bluff resident for the past 35 years. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and had been a pilot for United Airlines for many years. In retirement, he was appointed chairman of the board of the Chicago Executive Airport and the regional representative for the United Pilots Association. He was also active with the FAA as a designated pilot examiner. Flying was very important to Allan, and the only thing he enjoyed more than being a pilot was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Diana Englehardt of Lake Bluff; three children, Tricia (Paul) Nagel of Palatine, Tison (Nannette) Englehardt of Lake Forest, Allen Joseph "A.J." Englehardt of Cedar Rapids, IA; five grandchildren, Sarah, Derek, Diana, Joseph, Rhett; and by his brother William Englehardt. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) Libertyville. Interment will be in Southern Illinois at New Prospect Church in Eldorado, IL at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16 at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 W. Maple Ave. in Libertyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Rhine Cemetery, c/o Jim Anderson, 4220 Raleigh Chapel Rd., Raleigh, IL 62977. Just pulled out my private ground school certificate from 1980 the Allen signed.
Remember him like it was yesterday.
Great guy.

Allan gave me a PPL checkride in June 1999 out of Palwaukee. Al was a great and active advocate to the pilot profession, and to aviation at large. Today I still carry some of his words, and I keep remembering him as a great aviation fellow.

With my respects,

Cal and I are soooo very sad to learn of Al's passing. He was so giving to learning and loving aviation and helping others immensely. He will be missed greatly. Our deepest sympathies to his family.

I knew Al for over 25 years, he did my ATP checkride back in 1992 and I sent over 50 students to him when I was a CFI at Palwaukee during the early 1990's. He was a great person who loved flying, he will be missed. Godspeed, blue skies and tailwinds my friend...

While I didn't know Allan well, he took the time to speak to me about flying in the Chicago area after I moved to the US and after an absence from flying of 30 years. He pointed me to the direction of Leading Edge Flying Club, and getting me reintroduced to flying at Chicago Executive. He was a true gentleman, and always had time for my questions. He will be missed.
