EARL KALSOW Obituary

Earl J. "Pete" Kalsow lifelong resident of Huntley The memorial visitation for Earl J. "Pete" Kalsow, 98, will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley. Graveside services with full military honors will immediately follow in Huntley Cemetery. Born Nov. 17, 1911, in Huntley, the son of John and Anna (nee Ehlert) Kalsow, he passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family. Pete was an Army veteran who proudly served his country in the Western Pacific and Marshall Islands during World War II for four and a half years. He received numerous medals and ribbons for his meritorious service. On Aug. 21, 1948, he married Marcella "Marcy" Misavice in River Falls, Wis. They raised their family and resided in Huntley most of their married life. Pete was a carpenter who worked with his father, John "Pete" for many years. He retired from Union Special in Huntley. Pete and Marcy loved the outdoors and nature, when the family traveled north they loved to walk the trails and boat and fish all day. Pete loved his home and putzing around it, you would often find him in the garden or feeding the birds. He is survived by his loving daughters, Susan (Mike) Quirin of St. Charles and Joyce (Rick) Freund of Bolingbrook; his cherished grandchildren, Katie (Aaron) Russom, Michael Melby and Meghan, Gabby, Molly and Nick Freund; and his beautiful great-grandchildren, Ryan and Lily Russom. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marcy, on June 26, 2007; and his brothers, Norm, Allen "Ollie" and Robert. For information, call 847-669-5111.

Pete, Marcy and Hazel were the kind of friends who could just sit together and say nothing, and feel totally comfortable. That never happened of course, but it could have. Pete was one of those cool guys who fought in the war and never said anything about it.

Dear Sue and Joyce,
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Your dad and mom were so good to my mother. I recall them often sharing the bounty of their garden with her.
