I remember various visits with my Aunt Katy and Uncle Ed as I grew up- my mom is Katy's older sister. Uncle Ed was always so aware of how everybody was doing and making sure we all had what we needed and were comfortable. He was a genuinely caring man and my sympathies go out to Katy and Erik- the warmth of your Husband and Father will never be forgotten. Elliot T. Richey

My sympathies to Katy and Erik in the death of a wonderful husband and father.I first met Ed while working at Courier Travel in Glen Ellyn.
Ever the engineer, he needed the square footage of cabin space on a ship. (I didn't do that trip!) He would come in the office or call with vacation plans.....very specific plans that we would work on until everything was perfect. When I left Courier, Ed followed me through my next 2 travel agency jobs. The first question out of his mouth was always, "So, how are you doing?" He knew the health issues I had and was truly concerned I would be ok. We would discuss the family and how quickly time went by, measured by the growth and accomplishments of our children, and the love of his life Katy. My husband Mark was a police officer in Glen Ellyn for 27 yrs and had the opportunity of getting to know both Erik and Ed as he was Eriks DARE teacher. Each year on the Christmas walk, we would bump into each other and engage in lively conversation.
We couldn't help but feel better, more light hearted and full of laughter when we were around him. His passing has left a huge hole in my heart as I considered him a true friend. His memory will live on in our hearts. Katy and Eric, you will continue to be in our prayers to give you strength to get through this, and to know that somewhere down the road you will be able to smile again at his memory. May he rest in peace and until we meet again......Fran

Our deepest condolences to Katy and Erik at the passing of a wonderful man. We spent many happy times over the years with your family and our neighbors on Van Damin, as the kids grew up and we all grew older. You will be remembered for your energy, zest for life, humor and generosity by many.

Ed was always a ray of sunshine in the neighborhood. We will have found memories of him walking Max around the block and extending a big smile! The street won't be the same without the local mayor. Our thoughts and prayers our with Katie and Erik.

I had the privilege of calling Ed my uncle when I married his nephew. He always made me feel welcome and treated me as family from the time I met him. He was so good at recognizing everyone's birthday, even his great nieces and nephews. We never received a belated card! He always took the time to know what everyone's interests/hobbies were and cared enough to ask about them whenever we saw him. Thanksgivings will never be the same without him (and his Bloody Marys). He will be dearly missed.
