EDITH PEKAREK

Edith Pekarek, 92, of West Lafayette, IN, and a longtime resident of Prospect Heights, IL, passed away on May 14, 2023, in West Lafayette, IN. Edith was born on June 23, 1930, on her family's farm near Bloomingdale, Ontario Canada to Elo and Susannah Snyder. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Goshen College, opening the door to a 40-year career, including nearly 20 years at Glenbrook Hospital. She was an avid quilter and gardener, and devoted much of her time to serving several local churches and community organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Pekarek; her parents; and her brothers, Amos and Floyd Snyder. She is survived by her sisters, Salome and Ina Snyder of Elmira, Ontario, and a brother, Paul (Martha) Snyder of Cambridge, Ontario; her sons, Steve (Lori) Pekarek of West Lafayette, IN and James (Tracy) Pekarek of Edina, MN; and four grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, Madeline, Matthew. A memorial service will be held at Christ Community Mennonite Church, Schaumburg, IL at 11:00 am on June 17, 2023.
