Edna Streufert Obituary

Edna Ricka Streufert A worship service for Edna Ricka Streufert (nee Zahn) will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at St. John Lutheran Church, 125 E. Seminary Way, Wheaton, IL 60187, with committal in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Montgomery, Ill. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the worship service Wednesday, at the church. Born May 9, 1909, in Ann Arbor, Mich., the seventh of 10 children of Christian and Pauline Zahn, she fell asleep in Christ on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Clark on Keller Lake in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she had resided the last year and a half. She was baptized into Christ on May 30, 1909, at "eltern haus" (the house of her parents), in Ann Arbor. Her entire life was a walk with and a testimony to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In 1935, she met Albert H.T. Streufert. They were married April 17, 1936. They lived in Aurora, in various towns in Michigan, including Ann Arbor and McBain, and in St. Louis, Mo. Albert served as a public and Lutheran school teacher in several of these places. Edna was a faithful, loving wife and a devoted mother for their 10 children. She also worked as a part-time secretary for The Lutheran Church-Missionary Synod at the Lutheran Building in St. Louis. during the 1960s and 1970s. Following retirement to West Chicago (where Albert died March 30, 1995), Edna lived respectively in Arlington Heights and Joplin, Mo., before moving at last to Grand Rapids. She is survived by her nine children, Judith Waldow of Glen Ellyn, Anita (Richard) Meyers of Grand Rapids, Rev. Daniel (Donna) Streufert of South Bend, Ind., Magdalene (Arthur) Karsel of Algonquin, Martha (Dr. Louis) Jander of Houston, Texas, Cynthia (Rev. Lowell) Rossow of Joplin, Rev. Stephen Streufert of Liberty, Mo., Jonathan (Linda) Streufert of Catharpin, Va. and Rachel (David) Nolen of Austin, Texas; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lorena Zahn, Lydia Rueter and Selma Mayer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; all of her brothers and sisters; her husband, Albert; her son, Joel; son-in-law, Carl Waldow; and granddaughter, Miranda Meyers. Memorial gifts may be made to St. John Lutheran Church and/or the LCMS Board for Mission Services. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant ... Blessed are they who die in the Lord and their works do follow them ... Come ye blessed of my Father and inherit the Kingdom prepared for you." "Mother, dear friend, we shall miss you but we will see you again at Jesus' side in Heaven. Rest in His peace." Arrangements were made by Hultgren Funeral Home, Wheaton, where information and the guest book are available at hultgrenfh.com or call 630-668-0027.
