Along with his brothers, he helped build Van Der Molen Disposal into a large and successful firm. After the family sold the firm in 1972, he continued to serve as an executive for the new owners. In recent years, he had been a dedicated and faithful member of Faith Community Church in West Chicago. Throughout his life he dedicated himself to Christian service and was an active leader and board member of many faith related organizations. He is survived by three sons, Gary (Karla) of West Chicago, Russell (Leah) of West Chicago and Dennis (Fritzie) of West Chicago; seven grandchildren, Gary J. (Kristen) of North Aurora, Cassandra (Eric) Brooks of Brownsburg, Ind., Aaron of West Chicago, Seth of Batavia, Laura (Dan) Meyer of Cedar Lake, Ind., Victoria (Ron) Keith of North Aurora and Jared of West Chicago; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jaxon, Logan, Mason, Owen and Aubrey; and two sisters-in-law, Katherine "Joyce" (Dr. James Cook) Van Der Molen and Johanna Madrigali. He had numerous caregivers including Ederlinda, for whom he had a special fondness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; one son, Craig; five siblings, Bernard, Nell VanderArk, Harold, Everett, and Dorothy Setsma; and his parents. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 29, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Monday, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Community Church, 910 Main St., West Chicago, IL 60185. Interment will be private. Dear Van Der Molen family:
We send our condolances with the loss of George Van Der Molen. We over the years have had a special bond with George and the late Alice. Our contacts go back to the year 1949 when we emigrated from Holland to Canada. We trust that George now has gone to a place that he can be with his Lord and Savior for ever.
