Harold Busse Obituary

Harold Busse

Harold Busse, 97, life-long resident of Mount Prospect, left this world to be with God on January 25th, 2025. He was born on February 12th, 1927 and spent his entire life living on the 300 block of E. Evergreen Ave.

Carol was Harold’s high school sweetheart and they were married on October 18th, 1947 at First Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights. Their love and devotion to one another spanned an incredible 77 years.

He was a special and caring person who always had a smile. He cherished the flower business he built over the years, believing wholeheartedly that flowers bring meaning and joy to every occasion. Busse’s Flowers was started by Harold’s grandfather and father in 1916. In 1964, Harold and Carol expanded the business and it became a centerpiece of Mount Prospect.

Harold was an active member in both St. Paul Lutheran Church and School. He attended St. Paul School, as did his children and grandchildren. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1945.

He loved traveling with friends and family, making wonderful memories as they explored new places together. Harold’s first love was gardening and he took great pride in creating a beautiful patio oasis, which became a beloved gathering place for family and friends.

Harold is survived by his loving wife Carol, daughter Linda, daughter-in-law Olga, grandchildren Christian (Laura), Jeremy (Mary), Heather, Daniel (Nathania), and David (Jennifer), and great-grandchildren Summer, Hanna, Abriella, Dylan, Madeleine, Michael, Charlotte, and Gemma.

He was preceded in death by his son Jerry, granddaughter Melani, great-grandson Jonah, and son-in-law Paul.

Harold will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and remarkable green-thumb will live on through their memories and the joy he brought to others.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 2nd, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road (At Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect, IL 60056.

Funeral Service will be on Monday, February 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 S. School St., Mount Prospect, IL 60056 Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Flowers are greatly appreciated. Those who wish to remember Harold in a special way may make a donation to St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Croix Hospice.
