JAMES ALPETER Obituary

DUNDEE TOWNSHIP - James A. "Andy" Alpeter, age 77, of Lake in the Hills, formerly of Dundee Township, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Centegra Hospital in Huntley after a courageous battle with cancer. Andy was born December 11, 1940 in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late James E. and Margaret Alpeter. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from the University of Akron in 1963. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry Airborne attaining the rank of 1st. Lieutenant. Andy received his MBA at the University of Chicago Executive Program Class of XP39 while working for Johnson and Johnson Company. During that time at the University of Chicago he decided to form his own company, Andrews Packaging Company. His company was sold to Champion Container Corporation in 2005. He continued to consult for Champion Container until his retirement in December of 2017. Andy was very involved in the Dundee-Lake in the Hills communities. He served as a Director of EFS Bank Corp.Foundation in Elgin, Vice Chairman Membership Boulder Ridge Country Club, Member and Past President of Dundee Township Rotary Club, Board Member of Community School District 300, Former member and Warden of St. James Episcopal Church, West Dundee. A member of the Vestry of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Barrington Hills, Past President of Tri-Cities Little League, Past President of Gilbert's Business Association, a member of the American Legion Post 1231, a former Girls Softball Coach Village Four, and a member of Bonita Springs Elks 2753. Andy was also a member of A.F.&A.M, a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, Morocco Shrine. He loved golf, collecting cars, vacationing at Disney World and watching all of his grandchildren's sporting events. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Karen. His three children, Ann Margaret (Matthew) Limegrover, John (Karin) Alpeter, and Patricia (Craig) Zieleniewski. His seven grandchildren, Joseph and Luke Alpeter, Emma and T.J. Limegrover, Allison, Samantha,and Mark Zieleniewski; and his brother, Hugh Alpeter. In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded by a brother, John F. Alpeter. Memorial Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee on Monday July 30th from 4pm-7pm. Memorial Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 31st. at 11 am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 337 Ridge Rd., Barrington Hills with Rev. David Gibbons and Rev. James Swarthout officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dundee Township Rotary Foundation J. Andrew Alpeter Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 243, Dundee, IL 60118. Karen, we are so sorry to hear about Andy. So sorry we were away and couldn't attend the wake. I always knew Andy to be such a nice man and good friend.
