JAMES WACHENHEIM Obituary

LIBERTYVILLE - James N. Wachenheim 85, passed away peacefully with his loving daughters by his side at the Warren Barr Lincolnshire rehabilitation center. Jim was born in Chicago and attended Lane Tech High School. A gifted athlete, he graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (formerly Iowa State Teachers College). He served his country loyally in the United States Army. A longtime resident of Libertyville, Jim was a teacher, mentor and coach of several sports at Libertyville High School for over 20 years. He had a profound positive effect on everyone he touched because of his joie de vivre, wisdom, humor, intelligence and ever present smile. Jim will be intensely missed, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends and former students. He was an adored father of Mary Wachenheim and Anne (Evan) Myers, loving grandfather to Matthew, David and Andrew Myers. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Long in 2013. Visitation will be Thursday January 7, 2016 from 9:30 am until time of Mass at 10:30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Libertyville. Interment will be at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in his name to the Special Olympics or Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Northern Illinois Funeral Services, Inc., 847-833-2928.

Mary, Anne and family,
Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult and sad time. I have such fond memories of your dad when we were in High School, and I know he will be missed very much. I am sure your mom and dad are celebrating being together again though! May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Hugs to all of you.
