Janet R. MacAdam

Janet R. MacAdam of Lisle A memorial service for Janet R. MacAdam, 80, formerly of Winfield for over 35 years, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 10 until 11 a.m. Interment will be held privately. Born Nov. 3, 1927, in Jackson, Mich., to W. Howard and Margaret Riley, she died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Central DuPage Hospital. Janet graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in nursing, later receiving her master's degree from Northern Illinois University. After practicing for several years, Jan joined the faculty of the College of DuPage, where she taught for the rest of her career, also serving as coordinator of the Nursing Program. As a board member of Illinois Organization of Associate Degree Nursing, she was committed to nursing education throughout Illinois and lobbied with the state legislature for legislation to benefit graduates of associate degree programs. Jan is fondly remembered by many students she trained for the profession she loved, and in her final years some of them had the opportunity to return that blessing by caring for her. She was the loving mother of Tom (Amy) MacAdam of Belvidere and Julie Davis of Castro Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Quinn, Jake, Charlie, Marina and Elena MacAdam, and Eli and Joe Davis; and sister, Ann (Joseph) Janik of Southfield, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Behling.
