JOHN BAIRD Obituary

Dr. John H. Baird, M.S., D.D.S. died Oct. 14, 2013, at home after a period of illness. Dr. Baird was born March 11, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Harry J. and Ann M. Baird. He is survived by his wife Maryori, and by his daughters Joycelyn Baird-Yoder and Stephanie Baird-Valk, who were born of his wife of 37 years Catherine (nee Holt) who predeceased him in 2003. He is also survived his brother Ronald J. Baird and by his step-daughters Maidy Lorena Marquez and Jerilyn Andrea Salazar, as well as 7 grandchildren. Until his retirement in 2002 Dr. Baird practiced Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery with his partner Dr. Merwin B. Rosen in Waukegan and Libertyville, Illinois. Dr. Baird was a graduate of the Ohio State University School of Dentistry. After graduation he served as a Lieutenant in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Navy at the Naval Station Great Lakes in Waukegan, Illinois. After leaving the Navy, Dr. Baird earned a masters degree and completed his residency in Oral-Maxillofacial surgery at Loyal University in 1973. He then became a practicing Board certified Oral Surgeon and an Assistant Professor of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery at Loyola University until 1986. Dr. Baird had a passion for living life large. He loved big dogs, and he is missed by his English Mastiff, Dillon. He was well known in the Lake Michigan boating community, where he and his offshore racing boat "Firefox" were easily and audibly recognized in local harbors and poker runs. He had been a member of the Chicago and Waukegan Yacht Clubs, and he had served as Board Chairman of the Waukegan Yacht Club. Dr. Baird was also a marksman who was interested in shooting sports. He was a member of the Conservation Club of Kenosha County and the Racine County Line Rifle Club where he was a member of the Board. His penchant for large caliber shooting often announced his presence on the range. Dr. Baird is loved, and he will be missed by his family and friends, and by the many people whose lives benefited from his practice of medicine. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in John's honor to Seasons Hospice. www.seasons.org.

To the Baird Family, I am extremely sorry for the loss of "Doc" Baird. We enjoyed shooting with him at Bristol and thank him for getting me involved in the "big" caliber rifles he so enjoyed. Doc will be dearly missed by me and others who enjoyed his company. Thoughts and prayers to everyone.

Dearest Joy and Stephanie, We are praying for you during this most difficult time. The wonderful memories of two Darlings and your Mother and Dad are some of my most precious memories. Your Dad was as close to me as a Brother and Your Mother my best Friend for 27 years. I miss you all and think of you often. Stephanie, I ran into Sandy Welker at Ohare last year and gave Sandy my card to reach out you. Sandy shared wonderful news of how well you are doing. Miss you Girls very much.

You two are the best parts of your Mother and Dad. Those gifts and qualities will be with you forever.

Love, Joanie Kilkelly-Laity
