JOHN BOARINI Obituary

LAKE VILLA - Dr. John "Jack" Henry Boarini, D.D.S., 84 years old of Lake Villa, IL passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Centegra Hospital, McHenry, IL. He was born March 8, 1930 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Dr. Edward Vincent and Edelle (Odenbrett) Boarini. He married Nancy Grant on August 26, 1950. He graduated Loyola School of Dentistry in 1955. Jack entered the United States Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1958. Jack and Nancy have eight children; Dr. David (Michelle), Dr. Mark (Kathy), Kathy (the late Ernie) Boggs, Chris Boarini, Paul (Mila), Karen Staten, Dr. Daniel J. (fiance Kathryn), Matthew (Barbara); 34 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. They moved to Antioch in 1968 and bought his dental practice in 1972 at Orchard Medical. He built the largest professional building in Antioch, The Heritage Building in 1975. His dental office, Heritage Dental, is still serving the community today. Jack has been a member of the Lion's Club since the early 1970's. He helped initiate the eye wear collection boxes for Lions in Antioch, which donated glasses and hearing aids to the needy. He was a Rotary International double Paul Harris Fellow and has been an active supporter to St. Peter Church and served as a School Board Member for eight years. At their home on Maui, he founded a mobile dental unit for the poor and received the Father Damion Award from the State of Hawaii. After visiting St. Francis Catholic Mission in South Dakota on a hunting trip, he began work on opening a dental clinic there for Native Americans. His love for hunting and the great outdoors began with his father. While in the Air Force in Wyoming, he started the family tradition of annual big game hunts out west and was well known as a great hunter into his 83rd year. He is known to many as numerous titles: "the singing Dentist," "the tireless volunteer," "the great hunter," "the die-hard golfer," "the never-ending giver to the needy," as a Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan and as "the man who survived polio, two open heart surgeries, and meningitis." He was a devout Catholic. But he is best known for being a lovely husband, father, and grandfather, which is his greatest legacy. He will live on in the hearts of his family, community, and profession forever. Rest in peace in the Grace of God, Dad. We all love you. Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM Monday, June 2, 2014 at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch, IL. Interment with military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be from 2-7PM Sunday at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Route 83), Antioch. INFO 847-395-4000. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Peter Church "To Teach Who Christ Is" Campaign for the roof renovation are appreciated. I am 75 years old. I met Dr Boarini when I was 18. My father had never believed in dentists so we never went. At 18 I had a job with insurance and Dr Boarini was the first dentist I ever saw. He treated me with tenderness and compassion. I ended up with him restoring my teeth with four bridges. He told me I would have them until the day I died, and after over fifty years I still do. Dentists, since I moved out of state, have remarked at the outstanding work that he did on my teeth. I have not had one cavity since my teens. I followed him to Antioch. He cleaned my teeth and taught me how to care for them. I just looked for him today and found this obituary. He loved his family and always talked about them when I visited. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I remember him with love and appreciation.

I'm sorry for your loss, I know that no words will take away the pain, but there is the hope that you can see your loved one again.(John11:25)

It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Dr. Boarini. I am one of 6 children of the Lester family... we were patients of his when he practiced in Jefferson Park in Chicago. After just one painful dental experience for myself and 3 older siblings, my mother found Dr. Boarini and we never again had to be afraid to go to the dentist. He was kind, caring and generous, allowing my Mom to make payments for our dental care when she could. What a legacy he leaves behind. I am proud and feel truly blessed to have known him.

In 30 years I cannot recall ever seeing anything but a smile on Jack's face. Such a warm, friendly, and wonderful guy. His Spirit is smiling now, alive and well in the hearts of his Family and of all of those he touched in 84 years.
