JOHN WILLIAM WIEG

1946 - 2023

HAMPSHIRE - John William Wieg, 77, of Hampshire, passed peacefully May 12, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, with his immediate family by his side. He was born February 18, 1946, in Elmhurst, Illinois, the only son of Herman and Wilma Wieg. He graduated from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park in 1964. He continued his education at IIT, receiving a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. During his professional engineering career, he worked for American Standard, Durex, Elgin Sweeper and Tempco Corporation specializing in the design of heating elements and thermocouples. He met Carol Dierker in 1971; they were married in 1972; and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife of Hampshire; and his sister, Herma Allocco of Peoria, Arizona. In addition, he is survived by two children, Carrie (Wieg) and husband, Karl Carlock of Mt. Dora, Florida; Carleen (Wieg) and husband, Corey Gregg of Hampshire, IL, and their two children, Raelynn and Brynlee Gregg. Other immediate family members include his sister-in-law, Dr. Janet Whiteside, and his brother-in-law, Richard Dierker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was a person who enjoyed landscaping, model railroading, woodworking, photography, boating and taking his two Westie dogs on walks. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters in Hampshire as well as relaxing with a good cigar on his condo lanai in Florida. In celebration of his life, an 11 a.m. service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Plank Road, Hampshire, May 19th, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. A barbeque at his home will shortly follow after the private interment. Memorials may be given in his name to Little Saints Preschool at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Hampshire; St. Peter's Lutheran Church; or the American Diabetes Foundation.
