JONATHAN A. KAPLAN

1986 - 2024

ELGIN - Jonathan A. Kaplan, of Elgin, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 1, 2024. He was 37. Jon is survived by his loving and caring mother, Starr Kaplan. As well as the love of his life, Lynn Bialczak; and her two children, Vinnie and Louie. There are also his beloved bandmates and friends and his two cats, Charlie and Ira. Jon attended Gifford Elementary, where he participated in the Boy Scouts. He then attended Abbott Middle School, followed by Bartlett High School Math Science Academy and went on to Bradley University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy. After another degree, he began a career in laboratory medical science. He worked in several Chicago area hospitals and most recently with the College of American Pathologists in the Laboratory Certification Program. Jon was known for his quips and witty retorts. As a 7-year-old child he once flatly told his mother: "I fail to see the logic in your decision." Music was one of Jon's true loves. He was a founding member and the lead singer of the rock band, The Muzzlers. He was skilled at chess and loved the accidental art of a terrible film. He found immense joy spending time with the kids in his life- building legos, sledding, trick-or-treating. He enjoyed cooking for friends and loved ones. And he was cherished by his close circle of friends, of which he had many. A visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, from 4-8pm at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
