Joseph Naughton Obituary
Joseph F. Naughton of Huntley A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Joseph F. Naughton, 77, a resident of Sun City, formerly of White Heath, Ill., will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley, with Fr. Gerry Paderon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Huntley. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley, and from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass Wednesday, at the church. Born Oct. 3, 1928, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of George and Jane (nee Grimley) Naughton, he passed away suddenly Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at his home. Joe served in the Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant. Following service, he completed college graduating from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., with a degree in chemistry. Joe married Vera C. Guth on Dec. 27, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Jersey City. Mr. Naughton was employed with the Archer Daniels Midland Company for 41 years. He began as chief chemist, eventually moving on to regional sales manager and then national sales manager for the Decatur, Ill., based company, retiring in 1994. Joe and Vera raised their family in White Heath, where he was a charter member and past president of the Serra Club of Champaign Co. They moved to Sun City in 2000, where he was active in the golf and bowling leagues and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Huntley. Surviving are his wife, Vera; daughters, Jane (Martin) Flyke of Huntersville, N.C., and Patricia (Stuart) Davis of Cordova, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ian, Meghan, Bridget and Caroline Flyke, and Carson and Reid Davis; and his sisters, Mary Naughton of Skillman, N.J., Nancy Naughton of Hillsborough, N.J., and Margaret Christianson of Lakehurst, N.J. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George and sisters, Rose Naughton, Kathleen Goodman and Jane Keppler.
