KENNETH AUDETTE Obituary

Kenneth A. Audette of Bloomingdale "The song has ended, but the melody lingers on..." Kenneth A. Audette, 47, formerly of Joliet, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011, at home with his family at his side, after a courageous struggle with melanoma. He is survived by his mother, Christine Audette of Romeoville; his sister, Barb (Randy) Giese of Waukesha, Wis.; his brother, Jerry (Lynne) Audette of Joliet; two nephews and one niece, Brian Cone, Tim Cone and Madison Audette; his best friend, Tom Wilson; and his precious dogs, Kirby and Karly. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard E. Audette (March 8, 2011), and his grandparents. Ken was a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, in which he was fondly known as "Dino." He worked as a corporate trainer for Allstate Insurance for over 10 years where he absolutely loved the challenges and rewards of being a home office performance consultant. The family wishes to thank Tom Wilson, Joan Herr, Kathy Fredin and Dr. Jeffrey Eye for their loving care of Ken through his difficult journey. Also thanks to Vitas Hospice. Memorial donations can be made to www.caringbridge.org or the Skin Cancer Foundation. Funeral services for Ken Audette will be Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. Pastor Stephen Martz will officiate. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville. Visitation is Friday, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. For information 815-741-5500 or www.fredcdames.com.

We met Ken through Tom Wilson a few years ago. He was such a happy, pleasant man to be around. There is one special conversation I will remember forever, when we were discussing the loss of a loved one. He would say, "you don't need to cling to material things for comfort, just keep the memories close to your heart." He quickly made friends with my husband who has been trying to get me to not be such a pack rat! He even volunteered to take me to the container store to get my closets more organized. Through all of his struggles fighting this terrible disease, we never heard him complain. Even the week before he passed, while he was fighting so hard to win the battle, he made us all laugh when he inquired about the possibility of a "carry-out" margarita from one of our favorite Mexican restaurants! (El Puente, in St. Charles). Ken, it is bitter sweet that you were called home on the 4th of July, but it seems fitting, for someone who shined so brightly. We will keep our memories of you close to our heart! With deepest sympathy to Ken's family, friends and especially our neighbor, Tom. Love, Barb and Jeff.

To a life well-lived and a friend well-loved: Dino, we are grateful for your kindness and friendship throughout the years. You lit up the room with your laugh and mega-watt smile. We will remember you always.

Chris, you have my very deepest sympathy in the loss of your son and not very long ago, loss of your husband. You are thought of often even though I haven't seen you in several years. You will remember me from the singles dance lessons and helping out and restoring your pillows after the tornado. Remember all the happy memories and let them help carry you through this very hard time. May God bless you, your family and friends.
