LAWRENCE BECKER Obituary

BURLINGTON - Lawrence W. "Larry" Becker, Jr., 79, passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at his home. He was born April 15, 1942, in Elgin, the son of Lawrence and Vera (Bork) Becker, Sr. As a young child he lived in Genoa, Hampshire, and moved to Burlington in 1947. He resided in Burlington the rest of his life. In his youth, Larry was active in the Burlington Boys Club and graduated from Burlington Central High School in 1960. While attending high school Larry met the love of his life, Margene. They were married on June 22, 1963, and had three sons, Steven, Thomas, and James. As a young adult he started working at his dad's service station located in Burlington. Larry later worked at Automatic Electric in Genoa, Process Engineering in Crystal Lake, Westway Construction Inc. and Westway Carpentry Inc., both located in St. Charles. He also had an income tax preparation service since the late 1960's. Larry was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Burlington. As a young father, Larry was active in the Hampshire-Burlington Little League and Pack 22 Cub Scout Troop. He also enjoyed participating in the Hampshire Lanes Tuesday Night Men's Bowling League and the Burlington Men's Softball League. Larry was passionate about history. He was a charter member of the Kane County Historic Preservation Commission. Genealogy was his hobby in retirement. He would spend countless hours researching his extended family's history. Throughout Larry's life he enjoyed traveling and cruising the seas with Margene. Larry's proudest accomplishment is what he is leaving behind, his family. Larry was a true family man and was always there to support his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margene; sons, Steven (Denise) Becker of Edgerton, WI, James Becker of Marengo; daughter-in-law, Kelly Becker of Verona, WI; 5 grandchildren, Allison, Sara, Michelle, Thomas Jr., and Cleo; two brothers, John (Joyce) Becker of Arlington, VA, and Robert (Elaine) Becker of Blanchardville, WI.; and brother-in-law, Gary Hoaglund of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Judy Hoaglund; and son, Thomas Becker on August 9, 2019. Memorial visitation will be on Sunday, July 18, from 1-4 PM at St. John Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Rd., Burlington, and will continue on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. Memorial Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 19 at the church with Cremains Burial in the Burlington Union Cemetery.
