My brother Peter called me up and informed me that Dad had passed away. Actually I had lost my father in Turkey in 2002 but upon receiving that news I felt as if I had lost my father once again since Dad had always been like a real father to me.

Following so many discussions we made together with him, I learned to think in a more scientific way. He taught me to look for the disadvantages as well as the advantages of the case in discussion and make a judgement only after objective evaluation of these two opposite sides.

He told me that USA was not all Manhattan skyscrapers and suburban homes of Greece, but also taught me to about the less affluent areas in Rochester and the other USA cities. I understood what he meant after distributing Christmas gifts together with him in the inner-city areas of Rochester and taking part in a social work of the Aldersgate Church Youth Group in the impoverished regions of West Wirginia. It was an unforgettable experience for me and Dad had helped me to gain it.

Whenever I remember the warm family atmosphere which the Beers family provided me during my stay in their home , I will always think of a kind, open minded, yet self disciplined gentleman in the family who had been a real teacher and “Dad” to me.

I will feel privileged getting to know him and having been so close to him.

May Allah take him to His Heaven!
