MARIA A. SANTOS

LAKE FOREST - Maria A. Santos, age 70, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at her home. She was born August 14, 1947 in Leutschach, Austria to Anton and Maria (Tatzer) Scharko. On April 12, 1969, Maria married Arturo M. Santos, and they enjoyed 45 years of marriage until Arturo's death in 2014. Maria received her post high school education at Carthage College of Kenosha and Roosevelt University of Chicago. For many years, she was employed as an R.N. by several hospitals in the Chicagoland area. Maria enjoyed visits to the Chicago Botanical Gardens, as well as spending time at area libraries. She was a member of the International Club. Maria was a warm, compassionate and humble soul who always had kind words for everyone she knew. Maria was also the most loving, caring and supportive sister anyone could ever imagine. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her sister, Jane (Brian) Palmer and her nieces and nephews who adored her, Thomas (Kasey) Mathews, Tony (Ashley) Mathews, Katie (Bryon) Steine, and Kelly Mathews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral blessing will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The cremation rite will be accorded privately. Inurnment will take place at Lake Forest Cemetery at a later date.
