Muriel Hofer Obituary

Muriel A. Hofer of Arlington Heights for 53 years Prayers for Muriel A. "Mickey" Hofer will be said at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Mass will follow at 11 a.m., at St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum, Des Plaines. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Born Aug. 1, 1929, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Carl and Elizabeth (nee Price) Anderson, she died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Lombard. She was active in St. James Church, scouting and bowling leagues. After raising seven children, she enjoyed a career in real estate as a salesperson for several new construction builders before retiring. Muriel married Erwin Hofer Jan. 28, 1950, and together they raised their children Barbara (Michael) Martin of Lombard, Sherrill Hofer of Indianapolis, Kathleen Bernett of Fox River Grove, Carl (Elizabeth) Hofer of Glendale, Wis., Jacqueline (Alan) West of Lake in the Hills, James (Julie) Hofer of Elk Grove Village and Megan (Michael) Juskiewicz of Palatine; she was the beloved cookie-grandma of Michael, Heather, Jennifer, Tim, Katie, Kyle, Toni, Jacob, Gregory, Corey, Courtney, Jaime, Johnathan, Jeffery, Jarrod, Kirsten and Sarah; great-grandmother of Maeve; dear sister of Evelyn Kenney and Ellen Schramm; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a very nice lady. She made the best potato salad I ever had, remembering not to put onions in the batch I would be eating. I'll miss her.
